What is this?

Sensory gating is a cognitive process by which sensory perception is filtered and regulated. It helps to filter out irrelevant sensations while allowing important stimuli to be processed and integrated into our understanding of the world. It links a person's environmental sensations to their emotional and cognitive responses, aiding in the formation of a meaningful narrative from perceived inputs. The concept of sensory gating has been further explored in recent years as a way of understanding our capacity for perception and integration of seemingly contradictory feelings and events. Ultimately, sensory gating provides us with a valuable tool for navigating the ever-changing landscape of our emotions, thoughts and interactions.
